A totally unscientific assessment of the make-up of visitors we have encountered indicates that the vast majority are from Germany, mostly on group tours. We have come across a few americans, french, australians, japanese but a surprisingly small number of brits.
Also, the vast majority of those we have encountered have been older people – 50+.
Some of the german groups we have seen seem unlikely people to find on this kind of tour, and many of them are staying in more modest accommodation. We speculated that maybe german travel agencies are targeting a lower cost package than the upmarket Cox & King style tour you see advertised in the UK.
And no, we didn’t mention it……………………………………………….but, we were highly entertained when, towards the end of the trip, we were talking with a couple from Hannover - and she did.
