NYAUNG SHWE

After dropping our bags at the hotel we walked the length of the main strip which comprises the bulk of the town. We needed to book an onward flight to Mandalay – again easily and quickly done – and then went looking for somewhere to arrange a boat trip on the lake for the next day. No bother – they found us – we were approached by a lady offering us a day’s excursion, and after a bit of negotiation it was all fixed. So we spent a while having a beer at a bar overlooking the wide canal which leads to the lake. A bit of a lazy day overall.
That evening we ate at a restaurant specializing in food from the Shan state – beautifully presented in a series of small dishes set in a wooden tray shaped like one of the longboats used by fishermen on the lake. Unfortunately, although it looked tremendous we found the dishes a little bland and ultimately disappointing.
